In 2008, owner Mike Alderman began Outer Beauty Landscapes after working in the landscape industry for the previous 8 years, employed by two reputable companies within Burlington. During this period he gained 3 years experience as a Landscape Construction Manager as well as a number of certification and qualifications within various aspects of the landscape industry. In 2006, he graduated from the Humber College Certified Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship and in 2008 became 1 of 4 Certified Interlocking Paver Installers through the ICPI in Burlington. He also received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Guelph in 2004 and a Masters of Resource and Environmental Management degree in 2005 from Dalhousie University.

Since 2009, Mike Alderman has returned to Humber College's North campus during the Winter months as the Instructor for HCAP 336 - Site Layout, Grading and Surveying, a core class within the Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship Program offered January through March each year.
